Roadmap
The 90-day digital marketing roadmap (2026)
A complete, week-by-week plan to learn digital marketing from scratch and finish with a portfolio case study you can send to a recruiter, client, or founder. Pulled directly from The Digital Marketing Blueprint by Abhishek Ashtekar.
How to use this roadmap
Treat 90 days as three connected phases. In the first thirty days, learn the foundations and build your basic setup. In the second thirty, create real marketing assets. In the final thirty, publish, measure, improve, and document everything as a portfolio case study.
You do not need to be perfect. You need to be consistent. The reader who finishes three chapters and takes one practical action will make more progress than the reader who finishes all the chapters and takes no action.
A laptop, a domain or free subdomain, and the free companion file from this site. That is the entire toolkit for the first 65 days.
Days 1 to 10 · Foundations
Build the mental models before picking a channel.
- Read the foundational chapters and understand the 6-stage marketing system: attention, trust, offer, action, measurement, improvement.
- Write a one-page explanation of customer psychology in your own words.
- Choose one practice niche you can think about deeply for 90 days.
- Set up a simple personal site or blog on WordPress, Framer, or Substack. Treat it as your learning journal.
- Install Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console on it.
Days 11 to 20 · Core skills: copy, content, funnels, CRO, analytics
Practice the fundamentals every channel depends on.
- Rewrite five headlines from real landing pages and explain what you changed and why.
- Study ten landing pages across industries. Note what each does well and what to fix.
- Outline one full landing page for a product you actually use.
- Create a content calendar with 20 article ideas across three or four topic pillars.
- Publish your first two articles.
- Learn the difference between traffic metrics and conversion metrics inside GA4.
Days 21 to 40 · SEO and content
The longest phase. Start early so you can observe real outcomes.
- Learn keyword research with free tools: Search Console, Google Trends, AnswerThePublic, AlsoAsked.
- Identify ten long-tail keywords with clear intent and manageable competition.
- Group keywords into one topic cluster with one pillar piece.
- Publish two complete articles optimized for specific keywords.
- Optimize titles, meta descriptions, internal links, and image weights.
- Run a technical SEO audit using the criteria in the book's technical SEO chapter.
Days 41 to 55 · Social media
Pick one platform, build presence, learn what earns saves and replies.
- Choose one or two platforms where your audience already spends time.
- Define your profile positioning in one sentence.
- Publish consistently for 15 days without worrying about reach.
- Study ten successful creators in your niche and write down what their content strategy appears to be.
- Repurpose your best two articles into social posts or short videos.
- Cross-promote between your site and your social profiles.
Days 56 to 65 · Email marketing
Build an audience you actually own.
- Open a free account with MailerLite, Beehiiv, or Kit.
- Create one specific, useful lead magnet for your target audience.
- Build a simple opt-in page and test the signup flow yourself.
- Write a 5-email welcome sequence that introduces the topic, builds trust, and invites a clear next step.
- Publish your first newsletter edition.
- Add the signup form to your website and social profiles.
Days 66 to 75 · Paid advertising
Spend small, learn how the platform actually behaves.
- Set a learning budget of $50 to $100. Treat it as tuition, not as profit money.
- Start with Google Ads if you have content or a lead magnet with clear search intent.
- Start with Meta Ads if your audience is consumer-focused and you have a visual product.
- Plan one campaign with objective, audience, budget, tracking event, landing page, and three creative angles.
- Document every observation: what platforms showed, what users clicked, what cost what.
Days 76 to 84 · AI tools and automation
Use AI as a real workflow tool, not as a novelty.
- Identify three to five repetitive tasks in your workflow that AI could accelerate.
- Set up one Zapier or Make automation connecting two tools you already use.
- Use Claude or ChatGPT to assist on a content brief, an ad copy set, and an email sequence.
- Compare AI-assisted output to your typical output. Note where AI helped and where human judgment was essential.
- Build a reusable prompt library for research, briefs, ads, email, and reporting.
Days 85 to 90 · Project and path choice
Turn 84 days of work into evidence.
- Complete the beginner project from the book.
- Organize everything you have built into a simple portfolio page.
- Write the case study: starting situation, strategy, assets, results, lessons learned.
- Choose the area of digital marketing you find most engaging and most commercial.
- Write a simple 30-day action plan for what you focus on next: content, freelancing, applying for jobs, or launching a product.
What you have at the end
- A live personal site with at least 4 to 6 published articles and basic SEO in place
- An email list with a working lead magnet and a 5-email welcome sequence
- A documented small ad test with a clear winner
- A prompt library you actually use for research, briefs, ads, and reporting
- A portfolio case study covering strategy, assets, numbers, and lessons learned
That portfolio case study is what gets you the job, the client, or the income path. The 90 days is the work behind it.
